Every day, millions of donkeys, horses and mules work tirelessly to support families across Pakistan. They carry bricks in scorching brick kilns, transport coal through narrow mine tunnels, move agricultural produce from fields to markets, and deliver goods that keep communities and local economies moving. For many families, these animals are not just a source of income – they are the foundation of their livelihoods. It is estimated that a single working equid helps support up to eight family members.

Despite their invaluable contribution, many working equids endure some of the country's toughest working conditions. They often work long hours in extreme heat, carry heavy loads across difficult terrain, and have limited access to nutritious feed, clean water, shade and veterinary care. These challenges can lead to exhaustion, injury, illness and poor welfare, affecting not only the animals but also the families who depend on them.
