Brooke Pakistan – Pakistan's Largest Working Animal Welfare Organization
Nearly 6 million working equines carry the livelihoods of families across Pakistan — in brick kilns, coal mines, farms and city streets. We work alongside them, and the people who depend on them, so both can thrive.
Equids helped – 550,000 people supported
Operating since 1991, Brooke Pakistan is the largest animal welfare organisation in Pakistan. We aim to improve the welfare of horses, donkeys and mules working in many poor communities throughout Pakistan.
Every day, millions of donkeys, horses and mules work tirelessly to support families across Pakistan. They carry bricks in scorching brick kilns, transport coal through narrow mine tunnels, move agricultural produce from fields to markets, and deliver goods that keep communities and local economies moving.
Most of Pakistan’s working equines earn their family’s living outside brick kilns and coal mines. They pull carts of fruit, vegetables, bricks and building materials through city streets, carry passengers in horse-drawn tongas, haul water, and work the land at ploughing and harvest time.

“Since 1991, our teams have reached hundreds of thousands of equines and positively impacted the lives of their owners. Our focus now is on innovation, strong partnerships and deeper community ownership, so that no equine or owner is left behind — building a future where every working animal, and every owner, can have a life worth living.”
